Bathrooms that stay easy to use for years

Start a request

I plan and build bathrooms that stay safe and easy to use as needs change: walk-in showers in place of a tub, fold-down seats, grab bars set into solid blocking and handheld showers you can reach sitting down. It starts with a visit, and you get the options and prices in writing before work begins. I work within about 20 miles of Andover, MA.

What I build in

  • A low step-in shower in place of the tub wall, so there's nothing to climb over.

  • A fold-down seat at a height you can stand up from, on solid blocking.

  • Grab bars at the shower entry and along the back wall, set into solid blocking, in a color that stands out against the tile.

  • A handheld shower on a slide bar you can reach from the seat, with the controls near the entry.

  • Slip-resistant floor tile.

  • A niche or shelf you can reach from the seat.

Ready for later

While the walls are open, I add plywood backing behind the shower walls, the toilet and the vanity, so a grab bar can go almost anywhere later. It's a small amount of carpentry now and a much bigger job once the tile is up.

Larger projects

On larger projects we bring in experienced trades for the phases that need them, and I lead the job from the first visit to the final walkthrough.

Questions

  • Do I need a curbless shower?

Often a low step-in does the job. Whether a curbless entry works depends on how the floor is framed, so I look before I recommend it.

  • Can family be part of the visit?

Yes. Anyone who wants a say is welcome, in person or by phone.

  • What should I send with my request?

Photos of the tub or shower, the toilet and the door, and a few words on what's hard today.
